The “Nonprofit Boot Camp” presented by the Center for Nonprofit Management with the support of the Southern California Gas Company and Los Angeles County Supervisor Gloria Molina hosted more than 50 individuals representing more than 40 organizations on Tuesday, July 29th.

The day-long session was designed to help grassroots nonprofit organizations improve their communities by improving themselves. Hub Cities One-Stop Center in Huntington Park played host to the Boot Camp.

The Boot Camp could not have happened without the generous support of the Southern California Gas Company and LA County Supervisor Gloria Molina.  They provided both the financial and directional support to bring the event into fruition.

This was an excellent workshop that I was proud to support,”
Supervisor Molina said.  “I meet so many individuals from the county's Southeast Los Angeles region who care deeply about improving their communities but who are unfamiliar with how to go about transforming their passion and their ideas into effective action.  This workshop fit their needs -- and goes a long way toward strengthening the very communities that need it most.

Southern California Gas CompanyThe Center designed the Boot Camp to provide the basics needed for organizational capacity building, which will ultimately lead to stronger nonprofits and improved service providers.  Attendees learned the basics of volunteer management, how to raise money at a grassroots level, how to find financial support using on-line resources and how to build a board of directors.

All the workshops combined gave me an extensive overview of how a successful nonprofit should operate from top to bottom,” Marisa Quintanar, Fund Development Associate, East LA Community Corporation said.  “It also gave me new insights and ideas that will help us as we move forward.

Attendees left the Boot Camp with concrete tactics that will benefit their organizations.  “The volunteer session of the Boot Camp was a real eye-opener for us.” Jose Solache, Development and Public Relations Coordinator, the Oldtimers Foundation said.  “Our organization relies a lot on volunteers, and today has given us ideas of how to better formalize our volunteer program and make it more effective.
