Course Description This workshop will introduce you to Healthy City 3.0: a powerful web-based tool to access demographic, education, economic, and health data for more effective grants and proposals. Interactive exercises will take you through the process of generating maps, charts, and tables to include in your grant writing. Participants will learn how to: * Compare community characteristics to provide context in their requests for funding * Access US Census, LA County Health Survey, Claritas, WIC, 211 LA County, and other data sources to beef up your community needs assessments * Communicate effectively with free powerful easy to use web-based mapping tools * Identify potential collaborative partners
Instructor's Bio Tahirah Farris is a Project Manager for Healthy City, Tahirah is responsible for designing and implementing research and data analysis projects, community asset mapping and participatory research to improve policies and resources in underserved neighborhoods. She is the lead researcher on various philanthropic investment mapping projects, where she manages the data collection process to analyze major public and private grant funding for services provided to children prenatal to five years old and their families throughout Los Angeles County. Tahirah is also a board member of the Southern California Planning Congress, where she helps to prepare quarterly forums for planning professionals and students to discuss current events.
