Instructor: Judith Teitelman Course Description Do you have a vision for your organization’s future? A clear and compelling view of what programs you will offer and whom you will serve in the next three years? Is it aligned with your staff and board of directors? Do you have a sense of how you will achieve this future? Through this seminar, you will learn how to: (1) build a vision for your organization; (2) identify issues and obstacles facing your organization; and (3) formulate and implement effective strategies and plans. Topics include developing vision, mission, and values statements; identifying organizational “Current Realities”; creating the planning document; and implementing effective strategies.
Instructor's Bio Judith Teitelman brings more than 25 years of experience in helping grass roots and mid-sized organizations and large institutions strengthen their management and resource generating capacities and effectively plan for the future. She is a strong proponent of management initiatives designed to examine and challenge long-standing assumptions about nonprofit administration, and is committed to helping organizations rethink "business as usual." Based in Los Angeles, her consulting practice provides a full range of services tailored to meet the unique vision and particular needs of each organization. Clients span the full range of arts disciplines (visual arts, multi- and interdisciplinary arts, literary arts, theater, dance, music and media) and include social service and educational organizations, municipal and other government agencies, as well as funders. Between 1994 and 1996—the last three years of the program—Ms. Teitelman served as a Planning Consultant to the National Endowment for the Arts Advancement Program: assisting organizations in a process of self-assessment, financial and statistical data review, and strategic long-range planning, and participating in the development of regional and national seminars and workshops. The Los Angeles County Arts Commission contracted Ms. Teitelman as a Technical Assistance Specialist for more than a decade, and she worked with the Flintridge Foundation's Nonprofit Leadership Program in a similar capacity during the program’s four-year history.
