Includes a full breakfast. Space is limited. Course Description "Breaking Out of the Girl Box" The "Girl Box" is a phenomenon that occurs in 5th-8th grade when girls go from being confident and strong to being insecure about their bodies, their brains and their self-worth. This roundtable discussion will provide a current case study of an emerging movement to change this paradigm. Ashoka fellow Molly Barker, the founder and vision keeper of Girls on the Run International, will begin the conversation by describing the creation of this organization, her original vision of changing the way the world thinks about and supports girls, the 160 councils providing the Girls on the Run programs across the country, and the shift the national organization is now navigating from service provider to national movement.
Don’t miss this opportunity to explore the power and promise of movement building for women and girls!
Instructor's Bio Molly developed Girls on the Run in 1996 to help dismantle what she calls the “Girl Box” – a phenomenon that occurs in 5th-8th grade when girls go from being confident and strong to being insecure about their bodies, their brains and their self-worth. More than 200,000 girls have participated to-date. Now, with this national platform, Molly is stepping out to recognize, formalize and expand the roles of current constituents, and looks to engage millions in a social movement to shift the consciousness of individuals and organizations so that liberation starts when women are girls, continues throughout life, and liberates all of society in the process. The overarching goal is to create a more inclusive, compassionate and peaceful society for us all. Pricing Policy Center Associates receive a 10% discount on all classes, seminars and events.
