NOTE: Center Associates receive a 10% discount. Course Description This seminar will help participants recast the meaning of diversity as more than just race and gender. Based on the work of Dr. Roosevelt Thomas, participants will understand the skills and strategies necessary to manage diversity effectively - all in pursuit of organizational goals. Topics include: a new definition of diversity; diversity mixtures and related tensions; basing decisions on requirements instead of personal preferences, traditions or conveniences; what aspects of diversity matter; and accessing 100% of employee's talent.
Instructor's Bio Mark Abelsson is a human relations consultant with over fifteen years in social service planning, administration and training, over ten years in human relations education, and seven years in public teaching. Mark's company, Diversity@Work, specializes in workplace consultation, and employee and management training programs in six vital areas: corporate diversity initiatives and cultural diversity awareness; general harassment and discrimination (EEO) prevention; sexual harassment prevention; sexual orientation and gender identity harassment prevention; and group processes, including, effective communication strategies, teamwork and meeting facilitation. As a Master Consultant with the Los Angeles County Office of Affirmative Action Compliance (OOAC), Mark conducts training programs on cultural diversity, disability awareness (ADA), employment discrimination and sexual harassment.
